If your school has not finished checking its Class 10 and Class 12 LOC data, there is a little more time than the LOC circular gave you. A CBSE circular dated 2 November sets the correction window as 2 to 7 November 2026. The LOC circular of 17 September had said 2 to 4 November. Several news sites still print the old dates.
The new circular also says, in bold type:
No other opportunity for change / correction of data will be provided thereafter.
7 Nov
the last day to correct Class 10 and 12 LOC data. It was 4 November in the LOC circular.
4
fields CBSE names as correctable: candidate name, parent or guardian names, date of birth, subjects.
0
further chances to correct LOC data after the window, in CBSE's own words.
What is the CBSE LOC correction window for 2026-27?
It is the one period after the LOC last date when a school can fix candidate
data it has already submitted. The circular CBSE/Coord/LOC/Data Correction/2026, dated 2 November 2026, sets it from Monday 2 November to
Saturday 7 November 2026, for Class 10 and Class 12. After the last date, the
school generates a data verification slip for each candidate. If the slip
shows a mistake in the candidate's name, the father's, mother's or guardian's
name, the date of birth, or the subjects offered, the school corrects it in
this window.
The circular does not use the word "extended". But page 10 of the LOC circular gave the dates as "02.11.2026 to 04.11. 2026", so the effect is three more days. The source is the correction circular itself, a three-page scan on cbse.gov.in.
What you can correct, and what CBSE asks parents to check
The circular lists the fields as "name, father/mother/guardian name, DOB or subject offered". It then gives schools seven points to put to parents. In short:
| # | Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Name, date of birth, mother's and father's names | They go onto the marksheet and certificate |
| 2 | Names in full, not short forms | Many documents later need the full form |
| 3 | Surname filled in | Several countries require it, if the child may go abroad |
| 4 | Date of birth correct in all respects | It is checked against other records later |
| 5 | Matches the passport, if the child has one | The two documents must agree |
| 6 | Subjects filled with due care, for Class 10 and 12 | No subject change is accepted after the window |
| 7 | Parents confirm the data | CBSE calls it their responsibility |
Point 7 is worth reading in full: "It is the responsibility of the parents that all the data of their ward submitted in the LOC is correct." Parents can only carry that responsibility if the school has shown them the data, so the slip has to reach them.
The subject codes that go wrong most often
Subjects are the one field where a wrong entry changes the question paper the child gets. Page 9 of the LOC circular names the Class 10 codes that schools mix up:
- Hindi A (002) and Hindi B (085)
- Urdu A (003) and Urdu B (303)
- Mathematics Standard (041) and Mathematics Basic (241)
Page 10 adds that requests to change subjects after the LOC "shall not be accepted and subjects will not be changed". Page 11 goes further: subject combinations that break the scheme of studies mean the candidate will be "considered as Not Eligible". For Class 10 the subject list matters twice over, because the LOC circular says the subjects filled now are the only ones a student can take in the Second Board in May. Our post on the two-board calendar covers that rule.
Is the candidate category on the list?
No. The four fields are name, parent or guardian names, date of birth and subjects. The category CBSE asks you to give each Class 10 candidate is not mentioned. That category is FS for a regular candidate, ER for Essential Repeat and I for Improvement of Performance.
It matters because of a line in Annexure C, on page 24 of the LOC circular:
candidates' result is declared as per category filled in the LOC, which is then requested by schools to be corrected subsequently causing undue problem for students and the Board.
So the category decides how the result comes out, and the correction window does not say it covers it. The annexure also contradicts itself. Category I is headed "Improvement of Performance", yet its last line, on page 26, says those candidates should "be mentioned as ER".
My suggestion, not CBSE's: if your verification slips show a non-fresh candidate (compartment, Essential Repeat or Improvement) under a category you are unsure of, write to your Regional Office today. Ask whether it can be corrected in this window, and keep the reply with your LOC file. Waiting until the result is out is the problem CBSE is complaining about.
How to use the days that are left
This post goes out on Thursday 5 November. That leaves three working days, and the last one is a Saturday. A sensible plan:
Thursday: get every slip to a parent
Print or send the data verification slip for every Class 10 and Class 12 candidate. Ask families to check it against the birth certificate and passport and send it back signed by Friday noon.
Thursday: check the risky codes yourself
Do not wait for parents on subjects. Sort the list by subject code and check every Hindi, Urdu and Mathematics entry against what the student actually studies.
Thursday: list the non-fresh candidates
Compartment, Essential Repeat and Improvement. Check each category, and send the Regional Office your question on any you are unsure of.
Friday: make the corrections
Enter every correction on Friday and print the corrected slips. Do not leave anything for Saturday, when the portal will be busy and the office may be short of staff.
Saturday: final check, then file
Recheck the corrected slips, file one signed copy per candidate, and record who checked what, so the school can answer any query about the data next March.
What this window does not change
Everything else in the LOC stays as it was submitted. Page 11 of the LOC circular puts it in capitals: once the correction process and period is over, "NO CORRECTION WILL BE ALLOWED BY THE BOARD". The new circular names only the four fields and says nothing about adding candidates. The fees, dates and eligibility rules from September stand, and our LOC post has the full sheet.
The new circular also tells schools to "bring the contents of this circular to the notice of all the concerned students & parents". Forwarding the PDF meets that request. Errors get caught when each parent sees their own child's slip and signs it.
How many corrections has your school found on its verification slips so far, and which field had the most?
